Donald Trump is the misunderstood candidate due to negative media portrayal. The media has accused Trump of building his campaign on racism, sexism, bullying, and hatred. At the 2016 Republican National Convention, Trump stirred up a spirit of teamwork and unity.
The New York business mogul, who is known for his bombastic and brash personality, expressed a spirit of gratitude and encouragement during his final speech at the RNC. Trump did not put the focus on himself for the speech. He thanked all the delegates, alternate delegates, surrogates, and attendees for making his nomination possible.
“Hillary says to stand with her, but I’m telling you all that I’m standing with you.” Trump announced during the evening.
Trump clarified about his positions that he’s built his campaign on. He said that he’s not opposed to a legal immigration system and that he’s not against Latinos. In fact, Trump Industries has not only the most women executives in position but also minorities employed in executive level positions.
Because Trump is a “tell it like it is” person, therefore, his views are perceived as offensive. The problem Trump has received from media treatment is that the media only shows bits and parts of what Trump says and frames it in terms of racism or bigotry. Trump’s campaign is revolutionary in these politically correct times because he’s broken the silence on how Americans feel about the state of the country, especially with the illegal immigration problem and increasing crime rate.
The media has created a culture of racism and has victimized illegal immigrants. Instead of showing that the fact that they are in the country illegally is a crime, the media portrays them as victims, whether through broadcasted news or entertainment. During his speech, Trump never once said any racist or sexist comments but rather thanked all the hard working legal immigrants and women who’ve worked for him.
Before Trump spoke, video clips of women of various ages and ethnicities described Trump as a mentor and a boss who promotes his workers based on good character and hard work. Trump has provided work opportunities for people of different ages, ethnicities, talents, and walks of life. During his lifetime, Trump has been a creator, not a destroyer.
The day after the convention, Trump spoke to a group of some of the convention volunteers. He thanked all the people who made the convention possible and started out with thanking the electricians, carpenters, drivers, engineers, and all the people who worked in the “brick-and-mortar” aspect of the convention. He spoke in a cool, calm, and collected fashion. He explained that even for him, running for president was no cakewalk and has taken tremendous amounts of time and energy.
“If my kids could say nice things about me, I can’t be that horrible. My kids sure love their daddy,” Trump said referring to Tiffany, Eric, Donald Jr., and Ivanka, who all showed support for their father during the convention.
People who’ve worked for Trump or know him personally never describe him as a terrible person. Trump has never once threatened national security or committed federal crimes and gotten away scot-free. On a personal level, he’s kind and caring and reaches out to people. He’s polite to people who approach him and makes it a point to be friendly to everyone.
The convention itself showed a compassionate, dedicated, and hard working leader, but the mass media framed him as a crooked, selfish, and bombastic monster. Cut past the noise and the clouded perceptions of the Republican nominee and listen to what he actually has to say. He's a man who truly believes in the American people.
